Every heating system type will deliver heat to the house at a slightly different rate. The CT provides you with the flexibility to set the cycle rate adjustment to match your specific heating system, whether it is gas or oil forced air, high efficiency forced air, electric forced air, or baseboard hot water.
Step 1: Remove the thermostat from the wallplate. Pull the lower right corner of the thermostat toward you until it detaches from the wallplate. Step 2: Following the directions on the back of the thermostat or in the table below, adjust the A and B screws to match your system type.
Step 3: Replace thermostat on the wallplate by lining up the top of the thermostat with the top of the wallplate, and then pushing the thermostat onto the wallplate until it snaps on. The CT uses two AA alkaline batteries. Where are the batteries located? The two AA alkaline batteries are located under the battery cover on the left side of the thermostat. The cover is easily removed by pulling from the bottom of the battery cover. There is also a small opening at the bottom of the battery cover if you need to use a coin to release the cover.
The optimum schedule would be to replace the batteries every fall before the heating season. The thermostat's display will read "bAt Lo" 1 to 2 months before the batteries run out completely. Replace the batteries as soon as possible after this indication appears in the display. As the batteries are running low, a "bAt Lo" indicator will flash for 1 to 2 months before batteries run out completely. Replace the batteries as soon as possible after the indicator starts flashing.
After the batteries are completely dead, the "bAt Lo" indicator will disappear, leaving a completely blank display. The thermostat will not operate the heating or cooling system until new batteries are installed. First, replace the batteries with a new set of AA alkaline batteries. If you insert the new batteries within 20 to 30 seconds of removing the old ones, you will not have to reprogram the thermostat.
If the bAt Lo indication does not clear itself once new batteries are placed in the device install the batteries backward for 5 seconds, take them out, and reinstall correctly.
Eventually pm should come up and you can reprogram the thermostat. You may also want to clean the terminals with electrical contact cleaner and a soft cloth. Do not use a sharp object like a screwdriver or knife to clean terminals as this may cause permanent damage to the coating on the terminals.

I saw a recommendation to change from the older style mercury bulb thermostat with anticipator to a newer digital style without an anticipator.
I have never been satisfied with the anticipator operation on my current Honeywell TD thermostat. It has a cycles per hour setting. I checked Honeywell website and I was unable to find any information on how this setting works other than how to set it.
Seems like a good value for the price they are asking for it. Anybody have any experience with this thermostat or some insight on the cycles per hour feature as it relates to hot water boilers? I am trying to compare this model with a Honeywell focus pro series which costs twice as much. Is it a case of: You get what you pay for or would I be purchasing more than I need?

You start witht hat and then change the number until you like the results. Honeywell has always been a little vague about this setting: just because you set 3 doesn't mean you'll actually get 3 cycles per hour. I suspect that when you change the number of cycles, you are not directly setting a specific number of cycles, but changing the difference between the "on" temperature and the "off" temperature.
I have no proof of this. Honeywell claims that the only point of an anticipator is to set the number of cycles per hour, but this is not quite correct. Cycles per hour All thermostats cycle boilers from 1 to many cycles per hour. The amount of boiler cycles that a boiler will go thru in an hour is a funtion of the jheat loss in your building. If you need to keep a uniform temperature in the house let the thermostat cycle the boiler by the need for heat input. If you want to save fuel you waste your money by buying a T stat that will cycle the boiler less frequently.
The less the boiler runs the less heat input you will get and that will lower the temperature in the house. You can accomplish the same thing buy lowering your thermostat to lower temprature.
I come from the school of kiss. I learned that bells and whistles do not accomplish the thing you want done. As for reset thermostats that can only be used on a hot water system or a two pipe vaccum steam system that can produce a vacuum up to 22 inches of mercury. If you have a simple steam system a set back thermostat can provide you as many cycles per hour you want.
The benifit of the set back thermostat is if the set backs do not do what you want you can remove the very cheap plastic pins and use the T Stat with out a set back.

A 3 ton unit is not enough for a home your size. A5 ton unit would be pushing the limit unless your home was supper efficient. So, how do we remove or turn-off the 1 degree differential to keep the temp at what i set, not something different from what i set?
The thermostat that the installer provided is a honeywell T6pro programmable thermostat. The problem is that the furnace cycles on for 5 minutes and off for 15 minutes day and nite. The installer turned off the program which supposedly senses the room temperature change before it actually goes down.

Ideally, it turns the furnace's burners off a short time before the room reaches the desired temperature. This is to compensate for the fact that furnaces continue to produce and distribute heat for a short while until the heat exchanger cools down. If the shut-off is properly timed, the room temperature edges up to reach the precise desired temperature a short while after the burners shut off. The heat anticipator essentially consists of a small disc attached to the bimetallic coil of the thermostat.
The disc has a thin wire on its surface and an adjustment arm that touches the wire. The position of the arm determines the electrical resistance of the wire, which in turn affects how hot the wire gets.
As the wire heats up, it warms the bimetallic coil, which in turn shuts down the gas burners early, according to the heat anticipator's setting. When the heat anticipator in your thermostat is out of adjustment, it can cause the furnace to "short cycle" turn on and off frequently or to exceed or never reach the desired thermostat heat setting. Fortunately, this problem is often easy to correct by adjusting the heat anticipator.
Remove the thermostat cover. Using a torpedo level, make sure the thermostat body is level on the wall. If not, the thermostat's mercury switch will not work properly. Adjustments can be made fairly easily by loosening the mounting screws, rotating the thermostat body to the desired position, then retightening the mounting screws.

You can adjust the colors in Settings and in Preferences you can set the brightness. I have mine set to a black screen.Temperature swing, is the difference between the turn-on and turn-off temps on a thermostat, whether heating or cooling.
The swing setting, when the t-stat has it, often ranges between one and three degrees. Many modern t-stats have this setting. This allows accounting for differing home build types and locations, types of furnaces, and personal comfort choices.
So without taking the t-stat apart, you cannot adjust this via the menus. Instead, they hard coded the temperature swing setting. So this t-stat tries to keep the room temp within 0. The AC comes on when the room temp rises 0. Or, the heating comes on when the temp drops 0.

This switch is located at the top right side of the thermostat beneath the removable top cover. This is a manual override switch. If you set this switch to ON or EMER left this will disable the heat pump and will mean that you are relying on your auxiliary heat or backup heat system only.
